Wedding collections start with eight hours and a second shooter; portraits are a flat hour. Dates book six to twelve months out for weddings, two to three weeks for everything else. A signed agreement and a retainer hold your date; nobody's date is held on a handshake, including people I love.
If I'm already booked, I keep a short list of photographers I'd trust with my own family and I'll send it without being weird about it.
