A point of view, since you asked.

I started with my grandfather's rangefinder and a roll of film I ruined by opening the back. The second roll came out, and one frame of it is still on my mother's wall. I've been chasing that feeling since.

My work is quiet. I don't direct much, I don't bring a shot list of jumping bridal parties, and I will never make your guests hold a sparkler longer than they want to. I stand in the right place, I wait, and the day does the rest. The photos people cry over are never the posed ones.

The posed ones go to the mantel. The real ones go to the heart.

Practical things: I shoot digital with a film camera along for the quiet moments, I carry backups of everything including myself (a second shooter for full weddings), and galleries arrive within three weeks, guaranteed in writing.

When I'm not working I'm walking the dog by the river, printing things I have no wall space for, and defending the honor of grocery store sheet cake.
