Run by neighbors, on purpose
No executive director, no development office. A volunteer board of seven meets the first Monday of the month, minutes on the corkboard, coffee not optional.
How the food gets here
Twice a month we buy in bulk through the regional food bank, where a dollar stretches to about four dollars of groceries. Hettrick's Market sends what Tuesday didn't sell, which is often better than what we buy. Two farms up the valley grow a pantry row for us in season, and in August it shows.
What we will never do
We will not make anyone prove they are poor enough. We will not photograph a neighbor at the pantry for a fundraising post. We will not spend a dollar on advertising while the freezer needs filling. This paragraph is the closest thing we have to a mission statement, and the board fought about every sentence except these.
The Grange Hall
Basement of the Grange Hall, 40 Miller Street. Ground level from the parking side, four steps from the street side, and a ramp we built ourselves in 2019, correctly, on the second try. The kitchen passed inspection in March with a compliment, which the health inspector wants you to know is rare.
