A set dinner table in the garden, roses at the center, afternoon light

Hartwell House & Garden

A brick Georgian house on three acres of garden, host to one celebration at a time since 1994.

We do not run weddings on a conveyor. Yours is the only event on the property that day, the gate closes behind your last guest, and the house staff you meet at the tour are the ones standing there on the morning of.

See how a wedding day runs here.

The year in the garden

Every month here looks different, and we will tell you honestly which dates go first. The garden does not take direction; we schedule around it.

Spring

The magnolia opens first, then the whole border follows. First outdoor ceremonies late April, jackets advised, nobody minds.

May books by Christmas

Summer

Roses at their loudest, light in the garden until nine. Dinner moves outside and stays there. Our longest days, in every sense.

Saturdays go a year out

Autumn

The beeches go copper and the photographs take care of themselves. Ceremonies move an hour earlier as the light shortens.

October is spoken for

Winter

Fires lit in the hall, the garden asleep and beautiful about it. Small weddings, long dinners, and dates you can actually have.

The quiet bargain

The rooms, honestly measured

The Hall120 seated · 160 standing
The Garden180 seated under sail
The Veranda40 for dinner

Those numbers are what fits comfortably, not what fits. If someone quotes you the fire-marshal maximum, ask them where the dance floor went.

From the guest book

The rain came at four and by ten past we were dancing on the veranda. Nobody remembers the forecast, everybody remembers the veranda. M. & T., last September
Our dog was in the ceremony. The gardener held his leash and cried more than my father did. A. & R., June
